The PROGSAFE project has been scoped around need of bringing the level of fire safety design on par with the current trends in building materials, construction and use. The challenges to be addressed are for example multi-storey timber frame buildings, extended use of bio-based, renewable and recycled building materials, complex and high-rise buildings, occupants with reduced mobility or other disability, etc. The outcomes of this research are essential for increasing the level of life safety and property protection through the creation of the national fire safety design framework and contribution to the European (CEN) and world-wide (ISO) standardisation efforts in the field of fire safety engineering – the main objectives of the PROGSAFE project.
